How EmpowerBridge Provides Support in Cameroon
In Cameroon, access to disability services is still limited, and many families struggle to find the care and support they need. Existing services often focus mainly on basic materials like assistive devices, while broader support systems such as community care and communication support remain inadequate.
EmpowerBridge Disability Society works to bridge these gaps by providing holistic, community-based support tailored to individuals and families.
Children with developmental disabilities such as autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and intellectual disabilities are often underdiagnosed and underserved, with limited access to education, healthcare, and specialized support.
Stigma, poverty, and lack of trained professionals continue to create barriers, leaving many individuals excluded from full participation in society.
What We Offer in Cameroon
Personalized Care & Daily Support
We provide one-on-one, person-centered care designed to meet the unique needs of each individual. This includes assistance with daily living, mobility, communication, and emotional support—helping individuals live with dignity and independence.
Assistive Equipment & Accessibility Support
We supply essential assistive devices such as wheelchairs, mobility aids, and learning tools to improve independence and participation. Access to these devices has been shown to significantly improve confidence, mobility, and school participation for individuals with disabilities.
Skill Development & Education Support
EmpowerBridge supports individuals through life skills training, communication development, and educational support programs. We promote inclusive learning approaches similar to those used by organizations like UNICEF, where training educators and adapting learning environments helps children with disabilities succeed.
Caregiver Training & Family Support
Families are at the center of care in Cameroon. We provide training and guidance to caregivers so they can better support their loved ones at home. This strengthens local capacity and ensures long-term, sustainable care beyond our direct services.
Community Awareness & Advocacy
We run awareness programs to educate communities, reduce stigma, and promote inclusion. Community engagement initiatives—such as outreach and education campaigns—have been proven to reach thousands of people and help change attitudes toward disability.
Community Inclusion & Participation
We create opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to actively participate in:
-
Social activities
-
Recreational programs
-
Education and community life
This helps reduce isolation and builds confidence, belonging, and independence.
Capacity Building & Partnerships
EmpowerBridge works with local communities, organizations, and stakeholders to strengthen disability support systems. By building local knowledge and partnerships, we help create sustainable, long-term impact in Cameroon.
Our Approach
